General Hardware Specifications of Gateway 7330GZ:

This laptop is operating under Kernel version 2.6.12-9-386

• DVDs didn't play correctly until I replaced original totem-gstreamer by totem-xine.

• Haven't tested firewire port yet, but it looks good on lspci
• Haven't tested PC card slot. Updated: I tried it with a Firewire pcmcia card and it recognized it with no problems.
• Multimedia and internet special buttons work with predetermined applications.

Updating to Dapper 6.06:

• When updating to Dapper using sudo apt-get dist-upgrade after adding the Dapper repositories to the sources, the following issues had to receive special treatment.
• The upgrade process hit a decision when upgrading the sound configuration. At first, I decided to see the differences between the old and the new settings, but that threw me to a dead end on the upgrading. I resumed the process using dpkg --configure -a and then I kept the old configurations answering N to the decision tree. When the upgrading was done, I still had to reconfigure the sound output with alsamixer and mute/activate the proper channels.
• Re-configuring the wifi card was a bit of a hassle too.  I followed these howtos for an HP dv100 and then other Broadcom Cards on the net, but what made the difference was to blacklist the original bcm43xx module that created conflict with the ndiswrapper.
• sudo gedit /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist
  
  add at the end of the list:
  
  blacklist bcm43xx
• then restart the machine, activate the wlan0 and make it the primary device.

• Synaptics Touchpad didn't work properly until I replaced the original driver with xserver-xorg-input-synaptics. Only after that, the touchpad was able to use tapping and vertical scrolling.
